Acer has been making some well configured laptops at very reasonable price points. In fact, the PC World's Best Buy in our previous laptop comparison was an Acer model, the 5583 WXMi. This time we received the 12.1 inch wide screen model, the Aspire 2920, priced at Rs. 46,000. At its price point this machine sensibly balances performance and features. In WorldBench's 6.0 test, the Aspire 2920 managed a score of 62. This is no scorching performer, but easily handles all daily computing with some headroom left.
What we did not like about this Acer is its rather toy-ish looks. At first glance you may be led to think it is a make-believe laptop for kids. This notebook is going to be seriously out of place in a boardroom. Owing to form factor restrictions, the keys are cramped and some are very small. If you are on the lookout for an ultra-portable but limited to a budget of Rs. 50,000, the Aspire 2920 can be worth a consideration. An external keyboard can alleviate the prob¬lem of its cramped keypad.
