We’ve alreadyexamined the dirt-slanted edition which you can read about in the2011 Triumph Tiger 800 XC First Rideand watch how it stacks up versusthe BMW in the 2011 Triumph Tiger 800 XC Comparison Review. Alsowhile the two British machines contribute most of the similarimportant elements, Triumph received us to sample the road-goingTiger 800 during a two-day camping trip in Southern California.

Powered by a fuel-injected Inline-Triple suspended in asteel-trellis body, the main differences between the 800 as well as 800 XC are the pause and wheels. The Tiger has a distinct enginesupplanting for the British producer, but it does borrow its 44 mmthrottle bodies from the Day tona 675 sport bike. The escapademachines’ engine produces 799 cc of usable horsepower and torque.

Internal bore and stroke dimensions of74 x 61.9mm don’t alter from either model. We ran the XC on ourin-house dyno and watched it post 81.63 horsepower and 49.74 lb-ft oftorque. Those numbers should be the similar for the standard 800 andit seems similar from the rider’s standpoint. Smooth delivery isthe highlight and the Tiger thrives on tight, twisty roads where apassenger can push via the 6-speed gearbox and hold the engine rpmsprominent.
