In 2012 the Super Glide Custom proceedsthe tradition of representing the core product from the Milwaukeecompany: a cruiser that binds to classic Harley fashioning, has a lowseat height matched on a simple-going ergonomic suit and is poweredby a 45-degree, air-cooled, pushrod big-bore V-Twin. The Super GlideCustom, in many modes, is Harley-Davidson.

The SGC continues the Super Glidelineage but takes that lineage into the 21st century on conveniencesas fuel injection, which proffers exact throttle response, andelectric begin – a far cry from the original Super Glide’skickstart-only method of opening fire up its Big Twin.

Like segment of the Dyna line, the SGCloves other modern subtleties as the most recent generation Harleyswitchgear, today with a novel, ergonomically friendly shape for thebuttons and switches that operate on a soft toggle instead of theunique with or off position of last switchgear. A flash-to-passhigh-beam button is incorporated into the headlight switch, though agear-position indicator and RPM readout are today segment of the LCDinset in the tank-mounted instruments.

The SGC also features self-cancellingturn signals. Scoff if you as at something apparently soinsignificant, but to this day there are a number of high-tech,high-performance motorcycles with the market that for few reasonproceed to exist without the lowly self-cancelling signal.

A novel ECU and advanced electricalsystem not just decrease the amount of wiring necessity with theS’Glide, but are even capable of managing faster processing speedsfor things as ABS that is today usable just like part of the optionalSecurity Package. For 2012 Harley made upgrades particular to ABS onDynas by way of decreased dimensions for a single electro-hydrauliccontrol unit. Extended diagnostics capability for the system meansHarley could apply one control module for both the front and rearbrakes instead of divide units for each brake set.

Another usable upgrade for 2012 isHarley’s novel tubeless Chrome Profile laced (spoke) wheels. From a distance the wheels feel as anyother spoke hoops, but considered up close you will note theirgenerous width and seamless edge that blends exactly on the MichelinScorcher tires. The chrome end with the wheel rim is lustrous andgleaming, affording them a liquid metal appearance.

Our just gripe with the wheels is theregrettable location of the tire-balancing wheel weights. With ourtest unit the weights were suited straight to the rim, sticking outas a sore thumb with the otherwise classy appeal of these gorgeousrims. We would have preferred instead to watch a spoke-mounted typeof wheel weight.
