The star of Mahindra's stall was a 53PS, 124CC two-stroke racer that held pride of place next to a futuristic looking scooter of equal displacement. The motorcycle was too radical for any production prospect but reiterated the technology and development capability of Mahindra's Italian R&D firm, Engines Engineering. The company prepared the Duro and the Rodeo, and the same R&D operation will give us Mahindra's first motorcycle later this year. The concept scooter was in the same vein as the motorcycle, demonstrating Mahindra's ability to conceive, design and productionise cutting edge products. On the sidelines, we heard that Mahindra may have a big surprise for us in June. Anand Mahindra has been tweeting about an Indian superbike in the recent past. Of course, a commuter motorcycle makes sense; that will bring Mahindra crucial early volumes and stability.
