On the novel Captiva, which is aheavily face-lifted edition of the master model, GM believes it todayhas muscle to steer purchasers into its showrooms. Appear at thisrefreshed SUV head-on and you will tend to agree. The massive novelgrille has completely transformed the car and may be addressed theCaptiva’s largest weakness – that it only didn’t seem SUVplenty. The 2-part grille, split by a thick strip on which the Chevybowtie sits, is the now-familiar touch of modern Chevys. The fog lamphousings seem much more orderly also and the head lamps are moreimpressing as compared to earlier.

Other interesting details are there-shaped slope air vents, a chrome strip for the window line andturn signals incorporated into the mirrors. The muscular wheel archeswith protective castings are larger as compared to earlier toaccommodate wheels scoping from 17 to 19 inches. For the Indianmarket however, it’s likely the 17 - inch option will be offered. The Captiva’s back is unaltered and, not wondering, is the leastinteresting part of the car with its quite generic lines.

The interiors are largely carried abovealso but GM has created some clever plan alteration to give the cabina significant lift. The mid console is sharper, better graven and hasangular vents that afford it a sportier feel. The large, 7-inchdisplay is functional, specifically with the increased developmentof navigation systems. GM India is likely to offer the novel Captivaon a GPS navigation option with the higher-spec edition.

The instrument cluster is entirelynovel as well and unlike the last model, the speedo and tacho sitseparately and are much simpler to read. The novel Captiva acquiresan electrically operated parking brake which is commanded by a littleswitch with the base of the centre console. The space vacated by thehandbrake lever has been taken up by dual cup holders that slidebelow the fundamental armrest.

Plastic standard is much developed andseems plusher as compared to earlier but for a Rs 20-lakh vehicle,it’s however not great plenty. There are however lots of shiny, hard bits which take a much more away from the cabin ambience. Theswitchgear though is fairly decent and gear lever and steering lookbetter to kept also. The standard level is better as compared to theXUV500’s but the Captiva however can’t correspond European orJapanese standards.
