Flat's mid sized challenger seems to have it all. Good looks, great interior styling and solid build quality along with a good choice of engines. Based on the Grande Punto hatchback, the Linea will come with two engine options a 1.8-litre petrol motor and a 1.9 litre common-rail diesel, producing 140 and 150bhp respectively. The diesel will undoubtedly offer low-running costs and is the one to opt for if you drive a lot.
The Corolla-sized Linea is expected to be loaded with features and should be an SX4rivalling value-for-money proposition in its class. The huge wheelbase ensures that cabin space is as generous as the bigger Corolla and Civic. The huge 500- litre boot is likely to earn poirits with Indians as well.
You can also expect the car to have a tough build, the kind that gave the Palio its indestructible feel. Knowing Fiat, it is safe to assume that the Linea will come with a pliant suspension that will be capable of delivering a fine balance between ride and handling. However, the best part is the price. You get a Corolla-sized car for Honda City money, which makes it a great deal.
The big concern is if Fiat can get its act together and deliver the appropriate service. Fiat products, though brilliantly engineered, have failed due to the poor ownership experience History should not repeat itself if the Linea is to succeed.
