More than two years after Ford put an end to their offering in the premium D segment, the Mondeo, the company is now looking at re entering the premium segment in India. Ford is thinking about bringing its largest selling car in the UK, the Focus, into the domestic market. In India, it will battle the likes of the Honda Civic, Skoda Octavia / Laura and the recently introduced Volkswagen Jetta.

The Focus sells in quite a few different body designs including the two-door coupe to the five-door station wagon and hatchback. For India, we are sure, the five-door hatch modified as a saloon will be will be introduced. The station wagon may be introduced here as well.

Earlier this year, the Focus received its latest upgrade and went on sale in the UK. If launched here, it should be one of the best looking cars in its segment. It carries over quite a few design cues from the Mondeo. Engine options will vary with both petrol and diesel variants including the new IIOPS 2.0 Duratorq TDCi oil burner motor. Ford will probably take the CKD route for the Focus in order to keep the price of the vehicle as competitive as possible.

Ford India has been working overtime in the recent past with a number of new product launches. The 1.6 S Fiesta upgrade has been a good change and with the new Ikon lined up to debut anytime, it seems the future for this American major is bright in India.
