These are the first pictures of what Suzuki thinks the production A-Star will look like. The real life version of the funky A-Star will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in and promises to be both clean and frugal. Plus it'll be fun to drive too, prepare to get nostalgic about the old Zen.
The concept car's fancy lights and pink trim (thank goodness) have disappeared. But the large front grille and subtly bulging wheel arches remain. Other details are still scant, but when Suzuki unveiled the A-Star late last year we discovered the car would be powered by an all-new Euro 5 compliant 1.0-litre aluminium petrol engine that's mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Apparently this combination means an ultra-low 107g/km C02 rating and exceptional fuel economy.
The company is also developing a I.I diesel. We're not sure whether the powerplant will make it to India, but it's sure to find place under the European version's bonnet. The A-Star or the European Alto will be produced in India with annual production expected to reach 9,60,000 units. While a big chunk of the number will be consumed domestically, the car will be exported to many countries.
Apart from the A-Star, Suzuki will also debut two new eco-friendly concepts. The first is the SX4 FCV running a GM-made fuel cell technology, while the second has a much simpler fuel cell system with a performance boost coming from a lithium-ion battery pack.
