Tata is all geared upto launch the new Indica Vista. This is the Indica XI that has been doing test rounds around the country for sometime now. The Vista in essence is the third major upgrade for the Indica since its launch ten years back.

The car's appearance remains more or less the same except for minor changes like the new petal shaped headlamps and vertically stacked tail lamps along with crisp body lines that lend a modern day look to the car. The wheel size goes up by an inch (except on the low end petrol model) to 14 inches and fills up the huge wheel arches nicely now. The entire car with these small design alterations looks well balanced.

The biggest change, however, is under the hood. The Vista will be available in three different engine options including two diesel variants. The petrol version houses a newly developed 1172CC engine while the diesel options include the 1.3 Multijet taken from the FIAT (which TATA calls the Quadrajet) and the old lA-litre TDI. The interiors too receive a dramatic upgrade with the speedometer console being placed in the center of the facia. The three spoke steering wheel remains the same and seems to be out of place in well appointed beige two-tone interiors.

The Vista is 120mm longer, 30mm wider and 7smm taller than the current Indica. TATA claims to have made this a much improved car with added features like height adjustable driver's seat, tilt adjustable steering with reduced vibrations in the steering column, the deepest glove box in its class, etc. Pricing wasn't out at the time of this magazine going to press but being a TATA product, we can expect a good sticker price. Has the quality has improved? We'll be able to say that only when the car comes to us for a road test.
