Nissan may have tried hard to conceal the new Micra from prying eyes, but CAR India has a fairly accurate idea of what the next-generation Micra is going to look like. The image above is an artist's impression ofthe Nissan supermini's appearance when it hits the road.

In its new avatar, the bonnet lip of the car seems to have been positioned slightly higher than its previous iteration. The Nissan logo on the bonnet, which was earlier flanked by two chrome slits under it on the bumper, is now housed in a centrally mounted single chrome grille. The central air dam in front of the bonnet is now narrower and wider. The flare at the front wheel arch that extended right through the flanks of the car till the haunches has disappeared. It has given way to a crease that starts at the upper fender and culminates above the tail lamps running through the shoulder line of the car. The huge and rather spherical windows have been replaced by more angular, regulation windows with a wider B-pillar.

In this incarnation, the Micra seems to have lost out a bit on the retro charm that made it so special. Nonetheless, even with all these prominent changes the car manages to conserve its appealing visual character. The new Micra will not be mistaken for anything but a Micra. The car's slightly Beetle-ish, low and squat haunches have been replaced by a more contemporary yet familiar and less curvaceous rear. As a result, the rear is now straighter complemented by newly designed tail lamps that have shifted upwards a little. The Mini inspired headlamps, however, are still more or less the same.

We think the step to make the Micra look more modern has been taken to make it appease a wider audience. It won't be long before the camouflaged test mules of the new car hit our roads for testing. Our sharp shooters will always be on the prowl to bring you the pictures before anyone else.
