In just a couple of months car enthusiasts in India can lay their hands on the original 'people's car'. Volkswagen India's President and Managing Director, Jorg MUller has said that after strengthening their dealership network, the company plans to introduce the Beetle in India year. VW is looking at using the 'bug' as a brand building tool as it prepares to get into the highly competitive Indian compact car segment.

The Beetle will be available in 1.9-litre TDI diesel variant with a manual transmission. It will feature futuristic gadgets like rain sensors, cruise control and acoustic rear parking sensors. The car will also come loaded with safety equipment like ABS, traction control, anti-skid system and front and side airbags. This new generation Beetle, will come to India through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) import route. thanks to the 113 percent duty on imported cars surely no threat to the Nano.
