The first test on the Alto was for rear legroom, where it fell short of the Santro. "This is really cramped, it's worse than my dad's Zen," was his reaction. He was also quick to notice the smallish boot. "If I decide to go out of town with a couple of friends, then I am sure that this boot won't provide as much space as we'd need."

Ashit liked the light steering and the responsive nature of the engine, though he wished the Alto offered more power. But the air-conditioning on the car really impressed him. "This car's AC really chilled the cabin very quickly," he said, obviously pleased.

In Ashit's books, the Alto's ride quality also scored more marks than the Santro's. "The Alto rides better but the problem is that the legroom is less than in the Santro, so it's a tough choice," he said. He wasn't very happy with the quality of the plastics on the dashboard though. "The plastics don't feel like they'll wear well over time," is what Ashit had to say.
