After establishing itself as a consistent player in the Indian market with the Logan, Renault is now planning on expanding its domestic lineup with some of the finest cars from its global portfolio. The Megane III will be among the first cars to roll out of the French manufacturer's new Chennai plant that they have set up with partners, Nissan. The new Megane will be shown in the flesh at the Paris Motor Show. European sales will commence by Q4, however, the car will roll out on Indian roads. Renault is looking forward to showcasing its superior design capabilities with the car's aggressive styling cues that have been taken from its elder sibling, the Laguna. The Megane III has been purpose built to reconstruct Renault's C segment platform and is an important step for its global operations. In India, the Megane will take the hatchback segment a notch higher than the Skoda Fabia with a price tag that will compete with sedans like the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki SX-4.

Engine options include a I.6-litre 101lPS engine which will be shared with the Nissan Micra and the fuel efficient 1.4-litre 7SPS petrol mill that does duty in the current Logan. Diesel options comprise of the Logan's I.s-litre 66PS dCi motor and a 1.9-litre dCi mill which will compete with the soon-to-be-launched Fabia Sport. Since the Megane's flexible platform will allow Renault to build a sedan around it, we expect the Megane III sedan as well with a 2.0-litre petrol engine to hit Indian markets - a worthy competitor to the likes of the Volkswagen Jetta, the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla.
