Way back Nissan and Suzuki Entered a model/technology sharing agreement which would help them plug gaps in their respective model ranges. For Suzuki agreed to provide Nissan with the platform for a small car in the A segment, which the latter would launch in Europe as well as the BRIC emerging markets, This car, as it appears, is none other than the highly anticipated A-star. Under the Nissan badge, however, the car will be christened the Pixo, Unlike other allied manufacturers who simply rebadge various models for varied markets, Nissan has gone a step further and customized the A-star to reflect their trademark styling.

The Pixo's most striking divergence from the A-stat comes in the form of the front end which incorporates not-so radical Swifr-style headlights, a Nissan Murano-esque grille and a pronounced bumper. The rear end gets redesigned lamps and bumper. Other design elements remain perceptibly similar to the A-Star Under the hood, the Pixo gets the same three cylinder 1000CC K-series engine as the A-star. Nissan are planning to add a four-speed automatic variant as well, The car will be initially produced at Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing unit in Delhi and will be exported to Europe.

As we have disclosed earlier, the Nissan-Renault combine plans to introduce an A segment car to be positioned between the ultra-low cost car with Bajaj. While the development of the new vehicle is speculated to stretch the Pixo sounds like a worthy contender for the Indian market till the new A segment's launch. The Pixo is expected to be launched in India by QI approximately four months after Suzuki's A-star.
