The proto type of Honda's attempt to bring out a dedicated hybrid car, under the nameplate Insight 2, will be unveiled at the Paris Motor. The new five-seater, five-door, family hatchback is out to battle the Toyota Prius by being more efficient and slashing the cost and weight of its hybrid system. The Insight's styling is heavily influenced by the fuel cell, Honda FCX Clarity. No technical details have been divulged by the company about the car's specifications yet, except that it will feature a new technology to reduce fuel consumption.
Honda aims to sell half a million hybrid cars a year, out of which, the new Insight will account for 200,000 of the sales by being the cheapest hybrid car in the market. Honda also aims to roll out the hybrid versions of the new Jazz and Civic along with a production version of the two-seater CR-Z concept. Honda's original Insight hybrid was introduced in 1999 but was discontinued in as a result of sluggish sales.
