The all-new A Star will be the seventh compact car in Maruti Suzuki's stable and by the looks of it, it carries on the Suzuki tradition of cute and cheerful hatches. Positioned between the Zen Estilo-Wagon R combine and the Swift, the A Star features a newly developed 1.0-litre aluminium K Series engine with C02 emissions less than 109gm/km making it Euro 5 compliant. Which means that it is ready for the European market and therefore Suzuki is displaying it for the first time at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

The A Star is 3565mm long, 1470mm tall, 1600mm wide and will be introduced in Europe as the new Alto, but will carry a new name tag for the Indian market. Interestingly, the A Star will also be sold in Europe as the Nissan Pixo and once production hits full stream, Suzuki plans to produce over a 1,00,000 export units of A Star. However, since Suzuki's plant at Manesar will be the global production hub for the A Star, the car will first be sold in the domestic market. The company is planning to launch the A Star around Diwali in India and will begin exporting it by December. Although it will be launched with only a petrol engine, a diesel option is likely.
