Sony CDX-GT610UI is the first stereo we looked to the general USB port that allows drivers to take their digital music on the road without the need for a separate MP3-player. It also comes with a built-in iPod dock connector and general support input jack, making it one of the most adaptable single-DIN in stereo receivers currently on the market. CDX-GT610UI plays a variety of drives based on digital audio formats, including MP3, WMA, ATRAC and discs, as well as regular Red Book CDs. And, of course, he picks up AM and FM radio signals. Like the Sony MEX-BT5000, which we recently reviewed, CDX-GT610UI is a member of Xplod line of Sony stereo system. Unlike the MEX unit, however, CDX-GT610UI has a sober design, avoid bold X control cluster for conventional rotary dialing and screening of hard buttons. The neon blue backlighting to its trim and buttons, and the blue-black-matrix LCD screen complete a simple but stylish design.Sony CDX-GT610UI stereo demonstrates its compatibility with digital audio age on several fronts, starting with its special "smart" iPod dock connector, which transfers all iPod controls in the head piece. Many of the double-DIN size audio-visual unit we reviewed, including the Alpine IVA-W200 and double XDVD8182 are Featured iPod connectivity with varying degrees of comfort. With iPod connected to the CDX-GT610UI, we found navigation iPod files and albums very easily.


Perhaps the most striking features of Sony CDX-GT610UI is his ability to play MP3, WMA, AAC and digital audio files from a storage class USB devices. To test this feature, we connect the USB flash drive in our PC and dragged and dropped a bunch of (without DRM-protected) audio files on it. Then we disconnected and connected flash drive in front of the car stereo, which held play tracks in order without any further encouragement.
