Young Indian race stars Ashwin Sundar and Aditya Patel unveiled the Polo Cup race car which will form a new entry level race series that kicks off in June with a street race in Pune. The VW and JK Tyre backed series will see a grid of 15 Polos and the series will be open only to young race drivers.

The race Polo is powered by a 1.6-litre common-rail four-cylinder diesel engine with a power output of 130PS, max torque of 250Nm and mated to a six-speed manual. It will be the first one-make race series in India and only the second in the world to run diesel powered cars and will add an interesting dimension to the series.

The Race Polo runs on Ii' alloys shod with 200/60 JK Tyre racing slicks. The car is also equipped with a race brake system with four-piston fixed calipers and ventilated 312mm disc at the front and a 232mm disc at [he rear. It has adjustable race suspension, aerodynamic body kit with front and rear splitters, side skirts and a rear wing.

Safety features in the Polo race car include FIA approved rollcage, fire extinguisher, electric cut off system, integrated head protection, 6-point seatbelt prepared for the HANS safety restraint and a safety net on driver side. There's also full data logging and drivers can opt for an onboard camera as well.
