Time around we have a laptop that won't try to impress you with flashy add-ons. Instead, it'll simply give you what you need-good performance and comfort. Welcome the HP Compaq 6910p. FEATURES: Mainly intended for mainstream and office applications, the H P Compaq 6910p offers a good feature set. Built around the Intel GM965 chipset, it is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, 1.80 GHz processor. This platform along with 1 GB of DDR2-667 RAM and a 160 GB hard disk makes it a good mainstream laptop. The 14.1-inch screen at a native resolution of 1280x800 provides adequate workspace. A striking feature is the touch sensitive panel on top of the keyboard that allows you to control the volume level, launch HP's Wireless Assistant and Info Center. The laptop also features standard connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, IR, and FireWire. There are three USB ports and an SD and MMC card reader. The fingerprint scanner acts as an additional security measure.

ERGONOMICS AND BUILD QUALITY: The 691 Op looks business-like and straight forward. The matte black color complements the sturdy body and slim design. Weighing a little more than 2 Kgs, it's pretty convenient to carry around. The high¬quality hinges make the screen pretty stable, so the turbulence while travelling
in a car won't bother you. The keyboard, touch pad and the mouse buttons are pretty comfortable to use In case you are accustomed to the pointing stick, that too is integrated in the keyboard. The fingerprint scanner can get a little annoying because it activates every time your palm slides over it while typing.

However, it can be disabled from the pre-installed H P protect tools security manager. PERFORMANCE: Windows Vista performed credibly well on this platform in spite of the resource-hungry Aero interface. Keeping this in mind, Windows XP is bound to fly without many glitches on this laptop. However, running high-end games or other heavy applications on this laptop wouldn't be a good idea. We tested it
with synthetic and real-world benchmarks such as PCMark 2005, SiSoft Sandra
XI and CPU-intensive file compression tests. Looking at the scores, you'll notice that this laptop isn't meant for highly intensive processing, but it is ideal for office applications and light entertainment. With considerable workload, the machine remains pretty cool at all times which should ensure a longer lifespan. The battery is good for about 4 hours, 20 minutes-enough to watch a movie and still have battery life to carryon.

VERDICT: If you're looking for a laptop that offers good performance and most of the features required in a business environment, this is a good choice for you FOR: Good performance, features and design.
