On paper, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is something of a paradoxical treat. On one hand, the union of arguably the planet's rawest and nastiest fighting game franchise (replete with characters such as Sub Zero and Scorpion) with the characters from assorted DC Comics publications (including Batman and Superman, along with many that non-comic devotees may struggle to recognise) is inspired, and surely worth investigation.
But then you fear that no real damage will be done to either party, thus blunting its edge somewhat. After all, they can't kill big comic book names, can they? Doesn't that dampen the idea of the legendary MK finishing moves? Well yes, but we'll get to that shortly.
At first, it's the sheer novelty of seeing at times polar opposite characters coming head to head for a scrap that gets the game through. There's undeniably an attraction to the idea, and given the quality of the visual presentation, it's hard not to get sucked into it.
