    Default Dell M4400 Sound-card

I thought the Dell M4400 even had a generic sound card until I ran Symphobia it! Boy, did I laugh!

Thus almost hear some people do not have to connect external sound cards to theirs, but for me, that kind of defeats the purpose of the portability of a laptop so...

Anyway, probably not many options for internal sound, but the Dell M4400 has a myriad of ports, so you might opt for USB (maybe even E-SATA), USB, sound card or Express Card. Express card that I tend to offer decent performance for its size, such as Creative Labs etc.

Things like Symphobia never going to work well in internal sound cards. For that you need at least a decent ASIO card equipped and AFAIK not come into a variant. I watch the series Echo Indigo If I were you, come in Express Card and PCMCIA types. Very good audio quality and cheap. All things creative is good for easy listening music and movies, but not for production.

LVR-LPTP Thanks, I do not know about the production of things, so I learned something new. Every day is a day of school...

Thanks guys, I hope you understand that I am completely blank on the sound cards because I think my little foray Symphobia simplify the creation of my own compositions!

Any internal sound cards for laptops (including Express Card and other things) will be pretty crap. If you want audiophile grade stuff, you can get a good USB DAC ... But you also need an amplifier, you will need to be fed. I have not investigated, but something like a small USB DAC + USB power amplifier (i.e., an amplifier of the DAC feed-through 2 USB ports) could be an option, but there are certainly some (good) manufacturers that have not. There are also batteries USB DAC / amp around.
