THE DELL INSPIRON 1720 is a desktop replacement laptop that's had a significant makeover, succeeding the Inspiron E1705. In addition to component upgrades from Intel's Santa Rosa platform, the 1720 also has a 1,920by-1,200 resolution option and something that has never been seen on a 17-inch laptop. You can't mistake the 1720for anything other than a desktop replacement. I'm a little disappointed that at 8.8 pounds, it's almost a pound heavier than the previous Inspiron E1705. The 1720 retains its 17-inch widescreen, which is absolutely gorgeous. Though the 1720 lacks the DVl-D and HDMI output port yet it has an option for a Blu-ray drive.
The 1720, like all the new Inspiron laptops, integrates a 2-megapixel webcam. The 1720 loads twin 160GB drives for a total of320GB worth of storage. The 1720 is the only 17-inch laptop to integrate EV-DO Rev A. The 1720 is no slouch in performance. The unit integrates Intel's newest Centrino Duo (aka Santa Rosa) platform, so you get a first-tier processor, the 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo TI500. The 2GB of RAM are sufficient enough to tame Windows Vista Home Premium. The n Vidia GeForce 8600M GT is the same chipset found in the Apple MacBook Pro 17-inch(Core 2 Duo). Although the exclusion of some features is questionable, such as the lack ofHDMI-out and DVI-D ports, the Dell Inspiron 1720 lives up to Dell's reputation for giving you the most for your money.
