THE T70 IS is another addition to the sleek and feature-filled Sony T-series. This little camera comes loaded with an 8MP sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens with image stabilization (that Sony calls Super Steady). A sliding lens cover protects the non-protruding lens and also turns the camera on when it is slid open. The back has nothing but a large 3-inch touchscreen to control all the camera functions. The top part has buttons for power, playback and shutter release, and there is a tiny sliding zoom button. The slim black body is compact and light weight. Operating the
touch-based menu took some getting used to, and the lack of physical controls slowed down the operation at times.

We would have preferred an option of using physical buttons. The T70 comes with face detection and a 'smile shutter' feature that is supposed to detect the instant a person in the frame smiles, and then release the shutter automatically. The performance of this feature is not consistent. Overall, the camera produced decent results in different shooting conditions. Outdoor shots in sunlight turned out well balanced and detailing in our indoor tests was above average. However, the T70 fell short of the mark when it came to shooting in low light conditions. Though images were low on noise, they were heavily blurred, indicating aggressive noise reduction.

Quality of video clips were second only to the Canons. A good feature here is the ability to use the optical zoom while recording video (the only other camera lS to offer this feature were the two Sam sung models). For its price and average performance, this is a good buy but don't expect its touchscreen-based interface to perform miracles. There are better cameras that capture superior images for the same or lower price.
