The quality of digital compactcontinues to evolve, little by little. The wide angle is nowwidespread in urban and high-end, providing additional versatility tothe devices, and screens regularly pass the milestone of 3 inches(7.6 cm). But there are still differences in some areas.

Itis no longer a question of age.Some devices are very reactive, as instarting the development, others do not. However, the devices havevery slow almost disappeared: it is rare to wait more than twoseconds on startup or two photos, and the development is regularly onthe second. Note here the arrival of some continuous autofocusdevices: the development is done continuously, reducing the shutterlag. However, the time focus remains the weak point of the compact.Note that the transition to CMOS sensors has launched a new battle inthis area: the burst mode is more and faster.



The opticalquality: a good lens is expensive. There are no miracles in thisarea, although some Panasonic and Canon entry level are goodsurprises. Some targets are suffering from joints improved, othersare unable to record the finest details in the corners.
