Nikon delivers a small, smart, quality digital camera you know there's a market demand. In blue, silver and burgundy it's a great example of how a camera can not only look good, with its slim, curved body, but also pack a pile of shooting power into its 140 grams weight.

The main attractions: a 3x zoom, Nikkor optical zoom lens that focuses down to 4 or 30 cm in macro mode; the CCD has 6 million pixel image capture; the 6.4 cm LCD screen offers a wide 170 degrees viewing angle (horizontal and vertical). The LCD is the only way to view and review your pictures; there's no optical viewfinder, so there is some difficulty in viewing a shot in bright sunlight, but the Nikon is not alone there!

Features:-

Expect to make 32 x 24 cm prints from the camera's largest file size and you can take full frame 640 x 480 pixel movies with sound at 30 fps.
A time lapse mode shoots 1800 frames at predetermined intervals that can be stitched up as a 60 second movie.

In the novel One-Touch portrait feature the camera automatically detects a person's face in the picture, even off centre, and settles on sharp focus.
There's also an incamera Red-Eye Fix that can detect the unwanted red-eye effect that can sometimes happen in flash photography (often in low lighting conditions) and automatically compensates for it incamera to produce a more pleasing result.
More help with low-light shots: D-Lighting (in playback mode) improves images that are underexposed or taken with too much back light. The camera copies of the image, adds light and detail where needed and leaves correctly-exposed parts exactly as they were.

If you want to make mini TV shows of your own, the Pictmotion feature assembles a medley of stills and movie clips. You can you add some music stings from stock or your own library.

Conclusion:-

Although relatively simply configured, the Nikon S5 will shoot along with the best in its class and price range.
