Fujifilm FinePix F31fd is a 6.3-megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom. Metal body feels solid enough to take some blows, and it fits well in hand. My only complaint with the construction is that the small plastic flap covering the audio and power jacks looks flimsy and likely to snap off.The F31fd is one of the first cameras to offer face detection feature, which identifies human faces in order to optimize the exposure lock and focus. The value of this function was most evident when I shot in portrait mode with the flash suppressed. In the face detection is turned off, photos of staff members sitting in front of brightly lighted window came out underexposed, and their faces were too dark. Top positions in the four areas of control brightness display - a convenient feature, since the F31fd lacks the viewfinder. Operating four way management is quite simple, but it's a bit small for my thumb (I often eventually poking with my fingernail).
