The 8.2 megapixel M853 is the latest in Kodak's line of EasySha re ca meras. Armed with 3X optical zoom the M853 is a simple point-and-shoot camera affair, slim enough to be carried around in over-sized pockets.
The M853's 2.5in LCD offers good display and like its predecessors in the EasyShare series, the M853 has an easy to understand Menu.A preset scene mode wheel sits on the top of the camera that lets you toggle between different scene modes. A dedicated Flash On/Off button is located next to the mode wheel. As found in the EasyShare series, the M853 has a dedicated share button for printing, mailing and transferring images. The internal memory of the camera is 16MB, which can be increased by using an SD/MMC card. With the M853 you can capture both video and voice.
What left us cold, however, was the quality of the pictures produced by this camera. Average is the word that came to mind right away until we observed the bleed around edges. Not good enough. Having said that pictures shot with this camera in ideal lighting conditions looked okay. The M853 lacks a digital image stabilizer. Another gripe we had with the M853 was with its burst mode. In this mode the cameras screen goes blank when you hit the shutter button.
The M853 uses a Li-ion battery and comes with a charging adapter. The battery life is good but the camera could have done with a battery meter. Overall, the M853 is simple and easy to use. what you can say about it is that it is an affordable 8-megapixel camera.
