The Digital IXUS was the first digital compact that really mattered. Before it, digicams were massive, slow and pug¬like, created by designers convinced that the new frontier of photography required "revolutionary" form-factors. Consequently they weren't taken seriously by anyone with an eye for design - or for photography. The IXUS was.
This 2.1 MP, 2x optical zoom snapper was clad in the sleek metal familiar from IXUS cameras of yore, and was barely bigger than the APS designs that went before it. Utterly desirable and a supreme performer, it wiped the floor with its rivals. And it kicked the camera world right up the proverbial. Sony's T-series, Fijifilm's Z¬series, Samsung's NV-series: without the Digital IXUS, none would exist
