Canon PowerShot 1100IS is a successor to the earlier successful compact point-and-shoot camera PowerShot 1000IS. The body of the camera is made of plastic and has a glossy fmish, which failed to impress us. The build quality is okay. The camera looks a bit chunky, maybe because of the use of AA batteries instead of Lithium ones, though this provides a better grip and reduces shake. The zoom rocker, power and program buttons are on top of the camera. All other buttons are beside the LCD screen.

The Canon PowerShot 1100IS features a 2.5in LCD screen with 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor and a 4.1 x optical zoom lens. It also sports an optical viewfinder. It has several scene modes along with Face detection and Motion detection. For processing the images it uses, Canon's proprietary DIOIC 4 processor. It also features smart auto mode and easy mode that uses Canon's Scene detection technology. You can change ISO, White Balance, autofocus type, light metering and colour effects through 1100IS 's program modes.

The White Balance of the 1100IS performed well, contrast and colour of the images shot by the camera was prominent. No noise was observed when the camera was below ISO400, however, noise was quite noticeable above ISO400. Video quality was average, as the camera shoots up to 640x480 resolution at 30 frames per second.

The Canon PowerShot 1100IS is a good camera considering the image quality, but if you want a camera that appeals with its looks and has a HD video recording capability then this may not be the one for you.
