Standard def might be a dying breed. but this baby is the top dog in Canon's flash-based non-HD line-up. Tipping the scales at less than a quarter of a kilo, the Lilliputian video shooter helps you relive your memories wherever and whenever, without adding to your travel weight.
With 32 gigs of built-in flash storage. you can cram in about 21 hours of videos - over 7 hours in best quality - and more if you use its SDHC slot. The 37x optical zoom is enhanced to 45x in advanced mode and comes in quite handy, especially if you want to capture man-eaters from a safe distance. The quick charge feature allows you about 30 minutes of shooting from a 10-minute recharge. Controls are minimal and most settings are controlled via a joystick on the 2.7-inch LCD screen, though you would be hard pressed to find too many manual options.
Pre-record and a video snapshot mode are other noteworthy features available, the former capably captures 3 seconds of video even before you press the record button.
Video quality is great. especially when the ambient light is good. We would recommend setting it down on a stable surface while using the zoom as controlling camera-shake is quite difficult, despite the stabilisation.
The price tag does seem a tad high for a standard def shooter, but considering its tiny size, good image quality and ample storage, it's not too bad a price to pay for lasting memories.
