It's small, it's stylish, and surprisingly, it's not too priceyl Canon's IXUS range of compact snappers has always been known for its oomph factor apart from great image quality, and the addition of this mid- range snapper is more than welcome.
So compact that you could almost hide it into your palm, its smooth metal body and minimalistic controls make it look more like a piece of art than a gadget. It packs a 12.l-meg sensor, the 'HS' in the moniker referring to its high sensitivity.
There's a respectable 5x optical loom, starting from a wide 24mm to 120mm Strictly meant for the point-and-shoot crowd, the shooting modes are limited to Smart Auto and Program. Don't letthat bother you though, since there are quite a few goodies under the hood that might help you 'say cheese: The Smart Auto mode auto selects from 32 different scenes.
If you choose the program mode. various filter effects are on offer, including options like fisheye, miniature, super vivid and toy camera. ~'Cs a~e no less - you get full HD video recording along with m\cs, mini-HDMI and more features such as slow mo recording i240 fps or 120 fps. There's a Movie Digest feature that records short *Imls of video as you're shooting stills, and later stitches them up ~thertocreate a video snapshot - useful if you're on vacation. The Imtmodecancapture upto 3.4 fps atfull res, but you can go upt08 fpsata lower 3-meg resolution. The same lower res is also utilised if you cmose Low Light or Best I mage Selection modes.
Performance-wise, it's not the fastest we've come across, but the magequality is great. especially in good lighting. Even in low light. the results are quite usable.
