In Rage comes from id software from the path - on purpose. Thecreator of Doom, the inventor of the first-person shooters want more. And so we run into a rage not only through dark corridors and shootlike in Doom 3 - id the last game of 2004 - to hell demons. This timewe explore a relatively open game world, end times, drive a car racein the style of Mad Max, complete quests and do a lot ofconversations. Storeys is of course still, to mutants, bandits andgovernment troops. These are the best moments of rage, as id hasindeed once the first-person shooter lifted from the baptism, but thegenre has become noticeable in the last 20 years developing - garbageaway from a lone warrior, the space for space monsters, out to thespectacular blockbuster bombast a la Call of Duty: Modern Warfare orfor outstanding first-person narrative adventure after BioShock-style. Rage reached neither the bang factor nor the narrative depthof these models. It's still a good game.

To deny rather than bombastic battlesagainst dynamic scenes, we cleaned it alone one after the next roomof enemies. That may sound old-fashioned or even dull, it isabsolutely not. The shootings enraged make a lot of fun, especiallybecause the AI is excellent on the move, according to the differenttype of enemy attacks and we have seen time and again greatanimation. As soldiers on banister or dive for cover, while banditsstorming towards us, while walking along at half-walls. Mutantsshimmy sometimes even on the ceiling at us. Every shot that goes intothe Black will be rewarded with a successful animation thehit-id-feedback is typically excellent. While the weaponry failsquite conventionally, different ammunition types provide variety.Armor-piercing bullets penetrate even thick padded governmentsoldiers, energy bolts can fail shields, grenades and ammunition forthe shotgun puts entire groups of enemies flat.
