Playing through the death knight start area also exposes you to some interesting Warcraft knowledge, and encouraged to do so, even if you do not intend to play a new class after that point. It is only fair to warn you that the death knights can be tough to put down, but not limited to a very powerful and fun to play, but start at 55, they receive free epic mountain, and they are fully decked with great-looking blue (rare) to gear the time they leave their starter field for 58 or so. It is unfortunate that you should get another 10 levels played through the Burning Crusade before you can take any job in Northrend, but the death knight is so powerful class with so few simple that you can get through it rather quickly. The players adhere to their nonhero classes would almost certainly have to inform you that your new death knight is reduced at some point, and they are right, at least leveling and questing concerned. Death Knight is also one of the most difficult classes to play well and, unfortunately, it is too early to comment on how they fare in a player-versus-player scenarios.
