    Default AMD Catalyst 11.8: new output drivers


    AMD delivers its monthly batch ofdrivers, Catalyst 11.8, compatible with both desktop GPUs the partiesgraphics notebook.

    One of the features of Catalyst 11.8 isthat they bring the possibility to overclock some AMD processors fromthe control panel. However, this feature is present only for theBlack Edition CPU.

    Performance improvements are planned with the Radeon HD5000 andHD6000 in Crysis in DirectX 11 2 (10%), Fear in DirectX 11 3 (8%) andBlack Ops Call of Duty (20%). A performance increase of 30% ispossible when the MLAA (Morphological Anti-Aliasing) enabled. Severalbugs were also resolved, whether in Windows 7, Vista or XP.

    AMD Catalyst 8.11 drivers include theCatalyst Control Center and display drivers version 8881. However, nosupport for OpenGL 4.2, which will be added later this year so youhave to settle for OpenGL 4.1.


    These drivers are compatible withmobile graphics chip Mobility Radeon HD2000, HD3000, HD4000 andHD5000 and Radeon HD6000M and PCs equipped with the technology butnot PowerXpress phones with Switchable Graphics Technology with Intelnor those of Panasonic, Toshiba and Sony.
