There seems to be a clearly evident trend of laptop prices going sub-30K in
the Indian market. Laptop manufacturers are markedly looking to reach out to the growing demand of mobile computing. Prices of laptops have been constantly dipping of late besides manufacturers are clearly showing interest in this hot zone by
releasing affordable models which range between the 25-30K brackets. Though, almost every player in the market is trying to make the competent cut in prices, there are some players who are specifically looking to target the low-price segment. Zenith Computers is one such player which is looking to target this segment after successfully making inroads in the Indian desktop market with affordable price
ranges. Zenith Computers recently announced a new price strategy to revolutionize the Indian notebook market with the launch of three ultra portable laptops.

At a price range starting from Rs. 4,990/- the laptops offer consumers an advanced configuration with on-site warranty service rather than the carry-in warranty offered by MNCs. The three new additions, namely Zenith Director, Zenith Admiral and Zenith Presidio, are lightweight notebooks with longer battery life and improved wireless performance that are aimed at the mobile workforce. The notebooks will be available at all 500 Zenith PC World showrooms and outlets across the country. Zenith has exclusive retail showrooms and 1000 authorized dealers in over 250 cities that will cater to all audiences. Zenith laptops will also be sold at a price of less than US $ 500 in international markets such as the Middle East, South Africa and Eastern Europe, in the Zenith brand name.

Lenovo has introduced the G Series notebooks at a price range beginning from Rs 31,000. This new range offers mobility on a budget to value-conscious consumers who are looking to make a transition from desktops to notebooks. The G400 features Intel's Pentium Dual-Core 12080 (1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB) processor and comes with a 14.1-inch WXGA high definition glossy widescreen display, in a sleek silver cover. Operating on DOS, the notebooks are equipped with Lenovo's trademark features like the Thinkpad keyboard design. So, as we observe here, not only are manufacturers trying to cash on the low-price laptop segment but they are doing so with fully-decked laptops with rich feature sets. Time will only tell how much more cheap can manufacturers go?
