Default A smartphone can replace a GPS for hiking?

First,if I did not calculate theircoordinates smartphones because they have an integrated GPS chip(SIRF type, I do not know if any other) that allows them to receivesignals satellites, or they deduce their position thanks to thesignals of network terminals? In the latter case, it would be to meno idea the depths of the forest at the other end of the planet.
Iheard about aGPS, what is it?

For those who board a real GPSchip, is what they are capable of recording the tracks, points ofinterest, load maps etc. like my Garmin? If yes, it goes through anapplication and is built into the phone? An internet connection is itnecessary for this? My Garmin had the latest generation of chip whenI bought it (~ 2 years ago), which keeps the signal in difficultconditions, can a smartphone chip will have comparable performance ormuch lower?

FYI, there are many applications that can record your tracks and export them in. Gpx. You take a smartphone with a GPS chip and a digital compass.

A-GPS chip allows you to search your location faster with a triangulation network (note the off-plan) but it's still a real GPS chip.

Concerning the independence and accuracy of a real GPS ca is not much but hey ca helps out a lot.

    Thank you for this information.

So I understand there is no "fake" GPS, from the time shows where the phone is GPS conmme it mean that embeds a chip, and a-GPS functionality is simply a most is that? So-GPS or GPS, it works even without a network?

In fact I think that's the level of autonomy that it gets stuck in any way, especially if I go for treks of several days, at least with the eTrex I can take batteries but for the smartphone.

Otherwise, out of curiosity, commnt charges you cards with the application modRana, and is it free or paid?
