With cameraphones becoming the rule rather than the exception even in the lower segment, this was basically expected to be a fight between the megapixel haves And in the end, it boiled down to a face oft between those two behemoths Sony Ericsson and Nokia. The irony was that the Sony Ericsson T250i was a VGA camera but such was its picture quality that even the 1 .3megapixel endowed Nokia 3110 was given a run for its money. In the end, however, it was the Nokia that prevailed. However, once we moved into the higher price segments, Sony Ericsson ruled with its Cybershot series.
This pretty much heralded the march of Sony Ericsson in the multimedia segment. Although the LG KE 770 did put up an impressive show and took some very nice pictures, it just could not stand comparison with what the K550i doled out. The Nokia 5310 made a late run too (coming as it did towards the end of 2007), but in the end, it was the Cyber-shot K550i that won by a veritable mile.
Another nocompetition. Those who felt that the LG KG920 (the one with more buttons than a Victorian dress) would give stiff competition to the K850i were frankly taken aback when we compared the picture quality of the two 5.0-megapixel camera phones. The Samsung G600 did compete gamely, as did Sony Ericsson's own K810i (3.2-megapixel camera) but in the end the K850i packed in just too much of a punch. Strike two for Sony Ericsson in the multimedia segment.
This segment was made of the stuff that photographers dream about. On the one hand, there was the formidable LG Viewty with its Schneider Kreuznach lens and on the other was the Nokia N95 8GB with the famous Carl Zeiss optics. And while the P1i did not exactly rock our enterprise world, we were more than delighted with the picture quality of its 3.2-megapixel camera. In the end, it was the Viewty that
triumphed, mainly because of its excellent video recording facility, the stacks of software bundled with it and last but not least, because of the classy touch screen interface.
