Inspired by the early design of the Motorola SLVR, the E8 has totally new touch buttons which Motorola calls 'ModeShift.' The keypad automatically adjusts to the function ofthe phone. For instance, in the phone mode, the numeric keypad is highlighted so you can dial the numberWhen in music mode, the music controls emerge for play/pause,shuffle,and repeat. For the camera mode, you get stuff like zoom in and out.
The highlight of the phone besides the unique keypad is the circular navigation wheel that reminds you of the famous iPod click wheel. We found the navigation wheel at first a little sensitive but were soon comfortable with the speed of the same. The gripe with Motorola phones majorly lies with the user interface. And this one is no exception. There are unnecessary sub-menus. Some of the function items are available in multiple menus. Like, the em ail option is available under the messaging menu as well as the 1M and email menu.
This is a quad band phone with GRPS iPod to the device's USB socket. To our surprise, recording a television and EDGE support, weighing exactly 100 grams. The 2in display looks small compared to the size of the phone, butthe resolution of the same is good with 256K colours. On the connectivity front, the phone features Bluetooth and USB port. On the storage front, the phone comes with a good 2GB of internal memory that can be further expanded using the microSD card slot.
