Though we may be a small overtone hereat ABI to few great sounding headphones paired with a clean soundingDAP on the go, there are certainly those times when you only requireto contribute your tunes with everybody about you. Those of us thatdo not guess into the iOS world have a small tough time pairing up toa speaker dock, but there are however few choices out there. This iswhen the Sony SA-NS500 portable speaker arrives into play.
A portable speaker rated up to 8 hoursof operation without being plugged in, 4 tweeters spreading 360degree sound, and an upward firing woofer packaged in a….dare wetell eye catching plan, is sure to land on our radar. To top it off,the NS500 is DLNA compatible, Airplay compatible, and is set up forSony’s Party Streaming feature to spread music around your house indissimilar rooms wireless. You are going to have to read on to detectit.
As far as the audio inputs, the NS500has an auxiliary jack with the rear. The rest of the audio is sentvia wireless networking via DLNA, Airplay, or Sony’s PartyStreaming mode. essentially, the latter 3 all work the same wayapplying your wireless network. Whether this is good or bad dependsupon your location. At home, it is a nice solution to acquire musicduring your apartment or house.
Applying Sony’s Party Streaming way,you can link up to 8 speakers to the same stream to wireless send andsync music throughout your home. If this sounds familiar, it isbecause it is. Only think Sony's, but not as efficient or simple toapply. Not being with your home network while means you will requireto carry that 3.55mm aux cable to plug into your DAP for playback, like you miss the wireless capabilities without wi-fi.
Unluckily, this is where the NS500actually falls aside. You can examine Amazon or even Sony’s websiteto watch user sentiments, but they everyone say the same thing…itis basically useless. It would not link to wi-fi. When it eventuallyacquires linked to the network, the signal drops out. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Unluckily, I had the similar matterslike everybody else. Full disclosure, I bought this for my personalapply. Following Sony’s user manual of running the setup disc, plugging the speaker in via the LAN link to my router, and runningthe setup utility, I was unable to link the NS500 to my homenetwork. Once in each 15 reruns of attempting to link the speaker, the Sony utility would eventually realize there was a speaker turnedon and linked to the router.
Each time this occurred, I would typein my password only to have the utility lose link to the network. Iwould then have to begin above from the beginning and have it retrythe process. This went on for a couple of hours earlier I eventuallygave up.
While the network issues certainly hurtthe NS500, the sound quality should satisfy most. While I had totrust with a 3.55mm auxiliary cable and my laptop, Clip Zip, and HTCTITAN to couple with the speaker, I am not certain how much betterthe wireless network could better the sound quality. It would be niceif Sony teamed up with KLEER to supply loss-less audio betweendevices, as Arcam did with their rCube.
