The NWZ-A826 IS Sony's new 4GB entry-level Walk man. Granted, it's on the pricey side at first glance but shop around. You get superior battery life too: a mighty 36 hours for music, 10 hours for video. The screen is an impressive 2-4in QVGA effort that shows a fine level of detail, and handles the dark action scenes of Ghost Rider extremely well. The Sony is compatible with M1'EG-4 and AVC (H.264) files, but getting them on the player can prove problematic.
The only software that Sony provides is an MP3 ri pper and Media Manager. Getting music files onto the player is a simple case of drag and drop. But, you have to move video files into Media Manager before they can be transferred. And the software can't convert video files so you'll need to find additional software. This player's key feature is its Bluetooth functionality, and it comes with a set of Blue tooth on-ear headphones and a standard, wired pair.

Unfortunately, neither sounds particularly good. It's worth upgrading either pair, though we would suggest the same for most MP3 players, iPods included. Hook up a decent pair of 'phones and the Walkman reveals its true colours. It sounds detailed, punchy and enthusiastic. There's great separation between instruments and vocals during One taken from Metallica'a superb S&M live album. Whether itsWMA or AAC files, Sony's Walkman never fails to give a great account of itself. This is a very desirable MP3 player, but a few niggles stand in the way of the full five stars.
