Apacer,a Taiwanese company best known for its memory products,also has a good line up of MP3 players.The latest is its AU581, a chic-looking player with clean, simple lines distingusished by its polished silver back and a shiny blue screen.

The player is easy to operate with a 4-way navigation dial that lets you easily toggle between different equaliser settings. The player connects to the USB port for data transfer and batter charging.The player uses an in-built Li-ion battery and features Voice recording and FM recording utilities. Your PC will detect the player the moment its hooked up and so no messing around with installation drivers and such like.






The AU581 also features a FM tuner that can store up to 20 FM channels. The AU581can play music by folder or, if the MP3's are ID3 tagged, by Album,Artist or Genre. The single colour OLEO screen displays useful information like battery level, time elapsed, song length and more.

The AU581 delivers excellent sound quality considering the fact that the bundled earphones are just average.The equaliser settings are there to help you enhance the music, but at times they end up achieving just the opposite. Overall we liked the sound quality. The AU581 is a great looking device and comes in two versions, a 2GB (reviewed here) and a 4GB one.
