The X-gear Xhilerate is a candybar shaped media player with a profile that is just 7.2mm thick. How thick is the performance? FEATURES: The player has features other than music playback and one of these is the photo viewer. The options of this feature are pretty basic and it only lets you choose automatic or manual slideshows for a chosen folder The compatible image formats are JPG and BMP. There is a file viewer mode that allows you to list all files present on the player and this menu also allows you to delete them.
There is a recorder mode on the player that can record .WAV files upto 190 minutes of recording time. The device claims to be able to playback movies-the manual says that we need to download a tool from the website TATA Indicom Business Services[/url] to convert video files to be playable. However at the time of writing this, the website was still under construction and we could not find any other sources to get the required software. Even the distributor's website does not go beyond a mere mention of the product and its features. Xhilerate also claims to support ebooks, however, the only format that we were actually able to view on the player were simple ASCII TXT files.
This does not actually qualify as a proper ebook reader, however, we did not find any mention of supported file types on the distributor website or even the manual, so we cannot confirm that TXT is the only supported format on this player. We seriously feel that the feature list has gone amiss. The player bundles a car charger but the headphone connector that you will probably use to connect the player to the car audio system is not of the standard 3.5-mm type. What you get instead is a 2.5-mm connector that will need a converter to connect to most devices. So effectively the only way to connect the player to a car stereo is through the FM transmitter.
BUilD QUALITY: Control mechanism is simple with just seven buttons on the front panel under the 2-inch screen. The buttons cluster has next track, previous track, volume up, down, ok, and back buttons. The last button is for choosing the FM transmission frequency.
