It has decided to go with consistency in design and I say bravo! The fifth generation nano is still slim and sexy and now in a polished aluminum shell. The UI is still easy to use and very fluid. And like all new Apple devices YOU'll need the latest version of iTunes to use it. The new hardware changes include a larger display (2.2-inches) and of course the VGA video camera loaded on the rear. The placement of this camera is a big problem as it's located at the bottom right. So if you're shooting in portrait mode, your finger is, almost all of time, going to get in your way. We were not sure what to expect with this, the very first iPod with a built in FM radio and may we just say, about time! Reception is great and the Live Pause lets you pause live radio.
The video recorder captures in a 640 x 480 pixel resolution, suitable for YouTube but not very much else. There are a multitude of video shooting effects that make it fun to use, such as monochrome, sepia, heat map, and cyborg. Video files can be accessed directly from the drive that appears when you plug it in. Apple has also preloaded a Fitness application including a pedometer. The company still hasn't fixed the battery issue with the Nano-it seems to have the potential to drain a bit even if not in use. Music playback clocked in at about 15 hours and change.
