Nokia has released a free real-timetraffic updates service for its Maps/Drive applications. Presently, the service is live merely in Mumbai and Delhi, but Nokia is assuringmore cities to gain from the service in the near future.
The Fins say they have covered as muchas 1,500 km of the road system during the two cities and have shareda bit about the way their real-time traffic updates service works.Interestingly sufficient, if you own a Nokia running Symbian orWindows Phone and apply the Maps application, you are the backbone ofthe service.
That is because Nokia brings the datafrom its users who apply location services on their Nokia phones anduse them as "probes", like is the famous term in thenavigation industry. Apply that information, Nokia is able todetermine if the traffic is busy or light and assign it a color fromred to green accordingly.
