KEEPING IN TUNE WITH THE SLEEK and slim trend,Nokia recently launched its 6500 series. The 6500 series comes in two styles, a candy type and a slider. The set I received for review was the candy bar Nokia 6500 Classic. The 6500 has no controls on the sides and is completely smooth. Even splits between panels are hardly noticeable. The 6500 has a few controls that we're used to seeing in mobile phones. The 2" display itself is of appreciable quality. Even the 16millions color QVGA display is exceptionally good (only that you can't make any adjustment). The key pad is totally flat, except for the metal ridge at the bottom of each key.

It may be a bit difficult to press for someone with a big finger. The D-pad was one of the best in Nokia I have seen. The back of the phone holds the camera sandwich between the grilled loudspeaker and the dual LED flash. The 2MP camera sure does work fine for an outdoor shooting condition but shooting indoor is not a good option.
Opening the battery cover may not be easy as it seems and even on closing the cover can only be slide back in a very specific position (this can be very annoying at time, but its not everyday that you will open the cover) The battery is supposed to provide 300 hours of standby or five and a half hours of talk time.

In reality, these statistics are hardly achievable but it will give me good two days of battery life under moderate usage (45 minutes approximately of telephony plus about 20 minutes of using other phone features). As far as connectivity is concerned, there is only one USB port which also multi task as an earphone jack as well as a charging port. Which means, you will not be able to listen to music while charging the phone. The signal reception and call clarity have not been compromised by the sleekness. But the lack of video calls can be considered a real disappointment. With 3G on board, Nokia could've enabled it without much of an effort. The vibration of the phone is a bit weak (compared to other Nokia's phone) but the loudspeaker is among the most best I have tested.

The Bluetooth supports the A2DP profile, which allows stereo wireless connection. The 6500 classic supports 3G for faster data transfers, as well as EDGE and GPRS where 3G support is missing. There is no infrared port on the device and no memory card slot, which can sometimes be the most convenient way of transferring data.
Finally, at this price, the Nokia 6500 is not at all a disappointment. Just make sure you don't shoot pictures at night!
