The latest in the ongoing N-series from Nokia to hit the Indian shores is the N73. This multimedia Smartphone boasts a 256k colour screen with 240x320 pixels. The N73 has one of the best display that we have come across in recent times. Weighing just right at 116 grams, the N73 has a 3-megapixel Carl-Zeiss autofocus lens camera. The camera is hidden under a slider. The build quality of the phone is good. The plastic body feels tough and is made to last long. A special "Music Key" is provided on the right hand side that starts the music player. The phone comes with an internal memory of 42MB and Nokia bundles a 128MB miniSD card that can be plugged in the hot swappable memory slot found at the bottom of the phone. On the multimedia front, the phone supports MP3, AAC and MPEG4 files.

The FM tuner also serves as a good entertainment source. The N73 is equipped with two cameras; one mentioned earlier has the 3¬megapixel and the other is a VGA camera, making video calling possible. The phone also has a Push to Talk service. The 3-megapixel camera delivers good picture output and scores over the 3-megapixel camera from Samsung D900 (reviewed in this issue). With 3D surround stereo speakers, the sound quality delivered by the N73 is exceptional. We can label the N73 a must for the music buff. Although you cannot attach your own favourite earphones, the bundled ones that come with the package are pretty good.

Running on Symbian OS 9.1, the phone can be personalised by installing new themes and sounds. The user interface also is the same like all other Nokia N-series and E-series phones. The phone has an active stand-by feature that can display 6 selected applications on the main screen of the phone. On the radio connectivity, the N73 features Bluetooth and Infrared. A gripe that we have with the N73 is that Nokia has not integrated Wi-Fi into the N73. However it is a 3G phone with support for EDGE. The keys on the keypad are slightly small and a not a good sign for messaging freaks. But with support for office documents and PDF files, the N73 works as a business multimedia phone as well. The only thing that will make the buyer a little susceptible is the lack of Wi-Fi. The phone is priced at Rs. 15,000 and comes with all the necessary accessories like data cable, driver CD, 128MB miniSD card, and user manual.
