With its bussiess like looks and multimedia-oriented features, the Idea Pad Y 510 is balanced precariously in the middle. Its textured black lid steps away from the usual corporate attire, yet feels nice to the touch and looks trendy without being loud. The angled hinge, touch sensitive media keys and a seamless display hold a promise of hidden treasures.
While the specs will not shatter any records for performance, the machine runs through most apps with relative ease. While Vista Home Basic is too basic, the machine's multimedia prowess isn't, and the presence of four speakers and a subwoofer at the bottom ensure audio output is lively, though it certainly can't replace your home theatre. However, the screen is so glossy that it may leave the mirror in your bathroom redundant.

Of course, you also get the famed face recognition feature - it does work as advertised. A key marked "Novo" helps you recover the system in case of a crash when the notebook is switched off, and switches between various power states when the notebook is on. While the machine is certainly capable, it requires either a price cut or an upgrade in hardware and the OS to really make it a compelling buy.
