Chucking its business lineage to the winds, Lenovo suddenly moved up the style ladder and came up with this svelte ultraportable. The tendril pattern etched on the aluminium lid lends it an aura unmatched by its rivals, though the red colour may be too girly for some - you can get the one in black in that case. A set of touch-sensitive shortcut keys is hidden on the panel above the keyboard and lights up in a flowery design when touched.

Despite the size, the machine is fairly well spec'ed and its capable processor is well complemented by 2 gigs of RAM, taking most apps head on. The onboard graphics mean you won't be able to play too many games though. Connectivity options are available aplenty, though they couldn't fit an optical drive into its anorexic body, so you have to make do with a bundled external DVD writer.

The 11.linch LED backlit screen is frameless, and gorgeous, though the glossy coating is a bit of a downer. It's so glossy you could probably replace the mirror in the 100 with it, while ladies can use it for touching up their make-up. The piano black keyboard is surprisingly spacious for a machine this size - the keys, though flat, are large and comfortable to work on.

The trackpad is a tad small, and affects usability to some extent. A dedicated key is responsible for recovering the system in case of a crash, and the in-built hard drive protection system means you won't need to resort to prayers to keep that from happening. The 1.3-megapixel webcam on top of the screen combined with Lenovo's VeriFace face recognition gimmickry captures your mug and uses it as your login password.

At just over a KG, the Uno is lighter than air, if you know what we mean, and its tiny power brick goes with the overall anorexic theme. So no more red marks on the shoulder even if you lug it around with you all the time. If you're looking for a stylish notebook and find the Air too thin for your breathing (and connecting) comfort, take a look at this. We won't really be exaggerating when we call it a breath of fresh air.
