The iPhone was undoubtedly the gadget of 2007, winning over millions of users with its amazing touch-based interface. So it was hardly surprising when Apple decided to use the same interface for its famous iPod media players. The iPod Touch in fact seems almost like the iPhone in appearance, although it has a shiny chrome back, instead of the brushed surface seen in the iPhone, and also seems a bit heavier. And of course, you cannot use it to make normal calls. That said, it comes with Wi-Fi, so you can actually go to a hot spot and surf the Net on it, using the Safari browser. And of course, if you get the necessary software, you can even use it to make VoIP calls.

Then there is the amazing interface, which remains as finger friendly as ever. You can zoom in and out, scroll up and down using your fingers, and of course, use the large icons to start programs. The music quality is excellent on the accompanying headphones, and the large screen is perfect for watching videos. Mind you, we had the greatest fun flicking photographs using our fingers. There is even an onscreen keypad for entering text, although it does take some getting used to. But once the excitement of using your fingers wears off, you are likely to be disappointed by the absence of features like a camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

Yes, we know this is a media player but has enough features to be even considŽered a PDA in its own right. Another catch is its price, which at Rs. 16,000 for the 8GB version is definitely on the higher side, especially if you consider the fact that you can get an 80 GB Classic iPod for Rs 12, 500. But still, if you are attracted to the iPhone's interface, this is perhaps as close as you can get to it in India.
