LG's latest touchscreen temptress takes the Prada phone's designer threads and weaves in some sharp-shooting smarts. The Viewty isn't an iPhone killer (they're mythical, like goblins or convincing performances on EastEnders) but then it's not aiming to be. Where the' Jesus phone' settles for a paltry 2MP camera, the 5.1 MP packing Viewty (with autofocus and image stabiliser) is all about photos and videos (hence the terrible pun).
The Prada Phone was blessed with a deliciously seductive touchscreen but like the fashion world from whence it was flung, it was a little bit vapid. The Viewty plunders its prettiness using a 3in touchscreen with a monochrome theme but tweaks the interface and introduces tactile (haptic) feedback. Every time you press something on screen you feel a buzz in your fingertip, confirming the button is successfully pressed and that you rule.
Thanks to LG's bunk-up with Google, the Viewty should come preloaded with Google apps and one-touch YouTube video uploading. We say 'should' because these features are network dependent. If the Suits at your provider see fit, you'll be able to upload your hilarious hi-jinks at speed then read the plaudits from adoring fans on Gmail.
Right. here's a 'birds and the bees' style tale of tech when a mummy camera and a daddy phone get together the offspring can end up a bit of a runt. Not so with the Viewty, which combines its touchscreen capabilities with the feature set of a good compact camera. Dedicated buttons on the side of the phone access the camera, video and editing suite, and the ring around the lens is a manual digital zoom control (wish it was optical).
